Bob Chapman has litigated cases in both trial and appellate courts for 33 years.

He has obtained a number of multi-million dollar trial court judgments, including a recent $104.7 million jury verdict against Exxon Mobil Corporation for poisoning New York City's groundwater and drinking water supply, and an $80 million jury verdict which is the largest ever obtained against a motion picture studio.

Mr. Chapman has also litigated many trial and appellate cases in federal and state courts involving entertainment issues such as right of publicity, copyright, defamation, and breach of contract. Many of those cases have resulted in published opinions establishing law in various substantive areas.  He has also sued numerous tabloids obtaining large settlements, public apologies and retractions on behalf of celebrities.

• Obtained a judgment at trial in excess of $16 million on behalf of the director and producer of an Academy Award winning motion picture
• Obtained a judgment against an Academy Award winning director for breach of contract in excess of $8 million; the director subsequently became a client
• Obtained actual and punitive damages at trial on behalf of an actor who had been defamed on the “Tonight Show;” the matter was affirmed on appeal
• Represented a well known actress and her husband in a breach of contract and defamation action against a major motion picture studio that resulted in a multi-million dollar settlement
• Obtained an $11 million breach of contract judgment against the manager of a former Beatle
• Successfully opposed a request for preliminary injunction to prevent the client from releasing a major motion picture; subsequently obtained a dismissal of the entire action on a contract and copyright theory
• Prevented the publication of an unauthorized biography of a celebrity client

• Recently tried and obtained a $4.2 million judgment in a construction defect case against an architect which followed a $2.45 million settlement with the contractor
• After client lost a multi-million dollar real estate case in the trial court using different counsel, obtained a complete reversal in the Hawaii Supreme Court
• Successfully defended the owners of a major residential property against a multi-million dollar claim by a contractor; the case was resolved by the owners paying nothing and instead receiving over $2 million based upon cross complaints
